Older homes were typically built with clay weeping tiles. This
system of drainage is extremely outdated and obsolete that is prone
to clogs and disintegration. These homes were built using
cinderblock with grout holding them together. This grout would have
largely deteriorated by now allowing water to seep through.
Homes built on top of clay soils would experience structural
damage due to the constant swelling of the soil when in contact
with water.
